Enterprise Level Systems and Order Fulfillment
The top-level system in most facilities is the Enterprise Resource Planning level.
The next level down is Warehouse Management Software -- commonly known by its acronym, WMS.
This level comes in many forms and from many suppliers on many platforms and of course, at many price levels. Traditional systems link IT functions for receiving, shipping, storage & retrieval, picking and replenishment, staging, and a variety of productivity tools for managing people and equipment for optimizing pallet, layer, case, and each handling.
Many systems are customized down to special instructions for filling orders on a by-order/client basis.
